In the past several weeks, we have seen an increase in freight challenges for many of our customers. In discussing these challenges with our freight partners, we’ve learned about some of the factors that are negatively affecting the freight industry. These factors are resulting in delays and higher costs. We feel that it’s important for you to know what’s happening.
Some of these challenges are due to supply and demand. There are fewer trucks on the road than five years ago and demand for these trucks has increased significantly over the past 12 months. Truckers are able to ask and receive premium rates due to this shortage. This has resulted in inflated freight prices. Additionally, new government regulations are limiting the hours that drivers can operate in a 24 hour period. This has also created delays and increases in prices. Not only do these factors pose challenges for the construction industry, they pose challenges for the entire economy.
You can be assured that PRB will be monitoring these challenges very closely. PRB works with the best freight companies in the industry and we work tirelessly to find the best possible rates for our customers. We will continue to keep you updated on any issues that arise. We will also help you mitigate these challenges with respect to your transactions. Through increased communication and planning, cost absorption where possible, and order consolidation, PRB will help you navigate through these challenges with minimal disruption.
